Tree Identification Walk on West River Parkway

Sunday May 24

1:00 PM  –  3:00 PM

Spring has Sprung!

We are beginning to see change in the world around us. This part of the world is waking up from a long winter slumber! As spring arrives, so do new colors and smells. Have you ever wondered what happens to the trees and flowers during winter? Do you want to know more about spring perennials and how to identify them?

Join Becca Maxwell, an outdoor educator, for this 2-2.5 hour program. We will go for a hike and find different trees and flower species to identify. We will talk about their history and what benefits they have. We will also learn about invasive species. What makes a plant “invasive” and how does it affect native species?

We will meet in the parking lot of the Danish American Center, 3030 West River Parkway, Minneapolis. We will then cross the street to the pathways along the river. This walk is gently paced and entirely on pathways. Bring a child in a stroller or a friend in a wheelchair. This walk is designed to be relaxed and enjoyable for all ages and a wide range of abilities. Comfortable shoes recommended.
